About Us Built in 1885 by Mark Howard, who operated his tailor shop and maintained the local post office here, he soon had newspapers available for purchase, establishing a necessary stop and gathering place for Chatham residents. Throughout the years, the shop with the quaint gingerbread trim grew - serving locals as their general store for decades. Our shop remains a favorite newsstand and local stop 122 years later. The Mayflower has evolved to meet the needs of native Cape Codders, wash-a-shores and summer friends alike. Trademark quality home goods and gifts with nautical flare are a specialty. We offer a large stationery and greeting card selection, as well as * hospitality/paper partyware * gourmet foods * toys, games and puzzles * Chatham souvenirs * office supplies and desk accessories * bridge cards and tallies * calendars * Christmas ornaments * maps, penny candy and the largest newsstand and magazine selection in town. "Chatham is an authentic, old fashioned town that has never forgotten it's sense of place.
